Our “UnUsual” Mangoes prove that appearance isn’t everything. These mangoes may carry natural marks or spots on the skin, but the fruit inside is rich, juicy, and delicious.

We live in a world dominated by commerce and physical appearance occupying the most attention, especially in the world of modern retail. These commercial drivers compel the farmers to adhere to strict Sorting & Grading guidelines dictated by Corporate Retailers. During the Sorting & Grading process, approximately, 20%-30% of the fruit gets rejected at the farm level, as they dont necessarily meet the “Aesthetic” guidelines laid down by the modern retailers. Not only are these “rejected” fruits perfectly healthy but are also not necessarily inferior in taste or flavours.

At Aamrai Organic, we call them “The UnUsuals” – They are unusual because they got extra care of a leaf on the tree, a gentle nudge from the breeze, a small kiss from a dew drop or a peck from a bird. These little gestures of Nature, not only make these fruits special, but Unsual. These unusual never make it to the market, as they are treated poorly and sold as inferior fruits.

This hurts all of us in many ways.

1. It forces the Farmer to reject fruits that he/she has tended with great care and love.
2. Farmers are forced to sell them at Unusually low rates, as compared to the “usual fruits.
3. This leads to lower price realisation, but also forces the “usual” fruits to be sold at higher price making it higher for retailers and consumers
4. The rejected fruit, often is literally dumped and wasted, not only causing financial loss but also damage to the environment
5. Perfectly good fruit to eat and savour, is purely rejected due to aesthetical parameters laid down by Corporate retailers, doing a serious disservice to climate conscious and ethical consumers.

Specifications

The mangoes are sourced from orchards in the GI Tagged 5 Distrcits of Maharashtra’s coastal region and harvested at the right stage of maturity. After harvest, they are ripened naturally using traditional methods without chemical treatments. The fruit has a sweet flavour, pleasant aroma, and smooth juicy pulp. Natural spots or blemishes may be visible on the outer skin due to orchard conditions, but the fruit inside remains perfectly good to eat. They are suitable for direct consumption as well as for preparing aamras, smoothies, and desserts.
