Some positive news from AAMRAI, Ratnagiri. The flowering this winter is above expectation and we can expect a good harvest this season. The cold winter has helped in flowering and fruit setting and even assuming some flowering falls in the next few months, we can hope for a sizeable jump in harvest quantum compared to last few seasons.
The regions in Sindhdurgh -Devgad, Jamsande,Vijaydurg……as well as Ganpatipule, Velas regions of Ratnagiri had and earlier flowering and are expected to bear fruit 10-15 days before Pavas/Kasheli/Rajapur regions.
It’s still early days and a lot will depend on how supportive the climate remains over the next few months. A gradual departure of winter by mid-end February and a strong dry summer from March-May would be ideal for the hapus. Intermittent rain showers, cyclonic disturbances or hurricanes could play havoc with the delicate flowering and young fruits. We had a few showers at some of our farms even last week; climate change is certainly here to stay.
All in all, we are hoping for the best and fingers are crossed in anticipation.
Looking forward to serve you from March.
